Economy Minister Gordon Lyons praised Thales Belfast for its continued innovation and resilience throughout the pandemic.

The Minister visited Thales facilities in Castlereagh where he received an update on the company’s operations in Belfast and the UK at large and reviewed the safe working practices of the Covid company.

Speaking after the visit, the minister said:
“Thales has 60 years of advanced and high-tech engineering experience in Northern Ireland, employing around 500 people and supporting a larger and more meaningful local supply chain.

“The company has shown great resilience during a very difficult time, continuing to innovate and advance the local engineering sector, while putting in place safe working practices for the company staff.

“The company’s position as a world leader was underlined by its recent success in securing a major contract from the Ministry of Defense and its impressive presence at the international defense and security equipment fair in London at Beginning of the month.

“I found my visit engaging and informative, and I wish the company the best for the future.

Philip McBride, Managing Director of Thales Belfast, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Minister Lyons to our premises in Castlereagh, where we showed him our cutting edge technology, developed by Thales Belfast and supported by our supply chain in Northern Ireland.
